FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

1. Is it possible to camp in non-designated camp areas or the wild so to speak?

Yes it is possible; however, for safety reasons and potential damage concerns we recommend you camp in approved sites and areas. Motor homes have low ground clearance and a long wheelbase. Even small humps in the road or steep entry and exit drives can cause a motor home to bottom out resulting in damage.

2. What is the minimum age for a driver renting an RV?
 
All drivers must be at least 25 years of age.
 

3. Can I get a rental estimate?
 
Yes, we would be happy to prepare a rental quote for you. Please provide the following information: Size of motorhome desired, dates of rental, number of people traveling (children and adults), Route desired and destination, and any additional special requests.

 
4. What are acceptable forms of payment?
 
We prefer that you pay with a major credit card: Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. We do NOT accept personal or business checks. We do require a photo ID plus a major credit card imprint and a current Auto Liability policy. All items must be copied for our files. Booking deposit must clear at the time of booking and the remainder must clear 10 days prior to departure. The security deposit must also clear the day before departure.
 
5. How early can I pick up my rental and when does it need to be back?
 
Pick up times are between 12 PM and 4 PM the day of your rental. An appointment MUST be made to arrange pick up and return of RVs. Please allow up to 2 hours for orientation, training, and paperwork at the time of pick up. You must return your RV before noon the day after your final rental date. Please allow 1 hour for return so that we may review the condition of the coach together and process final checkout paperwork. We function much like a luxury hotel in this respect, and late fees, if assessed, do apply, as our business is very time sensitive in nature.
 
6. Do I have to buy special insurance?
 
Check with your current auto insurance agent to see if you are covered in these types of rental vehicles and or through your agent generally you can purchase special one-time or additional coverage to protect you and your occupants. We require that you have current and appropriate personal auto liability coverage prior to and while renting a Sun Cruisin' RV. In case of an accident, your insurance carrier is considered the primary policy followed by our insurance policy, which is supplemental and secondary. Your out of pocket deductible in case of collision will not be greater than your deposit, per occasion. Any non-collision or accidental damage that is found to be due to driver/operator negligence will be paid fully by the driver/operator at fair market repair rates. Also check with your insurance agent about upping your property damage amount substantially to cover our motor homes and or other property you may damage. This fee is minimal over a year.
We do not currently offer additional short-term rental insurance or a damage waiver daily fee. There is no such coverage you can purchase that will allow anyone wanton disregard for not taking care of and being responsible for such equipment. It is in your hands and you will be held responsible.
 
7. Are pets allowed in the RV?
 
Yes, but only in desiginated coaches.  The majority of our coaches do not allow pets.  If you wil be traveling with your pet, we advise reserving a coach as soon as possible because of the limited availability.  There is an additional cleaning and deodorizing fee for coaches returned with indications of the presence of pets. PLEASE respect other future guests. Many folks are allergic to pets and in some cases severely. You will be held responsible for thorough cleaning, damages, and or someone's allergic reactions if you disregard this policy. This is no joke in our business and is not to be taken lightly.
 
8. Is smoking allowed in the RV?
 
No, absolutely not. All of our units are strictly non-smoking. There is a $1000.00 cleaning and deodorizing fee for coaches that have been smoked in plus full repair fees for any burn or smoke damage. Including carpet or upholstery replacement. Please respect our owners' wishes and future guests to follow your use.
 
9. What do I need to bring and what is already provided?
 
All rentals include a convenience package including but not limited to: Dish Drying Rack, Kitchen Size Trash Bags, 2 Trash Cans, Dish Towels, Flashlight, Paper Towels, Entry Mat, Household Cleaner, Mini or installed Vacuum, RV Toilet Paper, RV Toilet Tank Chemicals, Basic Tool Kit, Tire Pressure Gauge, and all Hoses/ Cables/ Power Cords for hookups. Each unit comes with a microwave, stove, oven, refrigerator, and freezer.  We have many accessories for rent that will enhance your trip. Ask one of our staff for a list of available items.
 
10. What do I need to do to make sure that I receive a full refund of my deposit?
 
We ask that you return your RV on time (remove trash and debris), clean, without damage, and with a full tank of fuel. We do not require our renters to fill the propane (except in certain cases). RVs that are returned damaged will be charged according to market rates to repair the unit. We also will assess a $45 refueling fee in addition to the cost of fuel +$2.00 per gallon for RVs that are returned without a full tank of fuel. RVs that are returned "trashed" (garbage, dirt clods, stains, etc.) will be charged a cleaning or repair fee starting at $100.00. Please treat this equipment with respect and care as if borrowed from your best friend so that future renters may also enjoy their RV experience as you have. We do reserve the right to refuse service to guests who do not respect these simple guidelines.
 
11. What happens if we have to cancel our trip?
 
We want to work with our clients if possible; however, certain business restrictions must apply. Policy dictates that cancellations more than 10 days out will forfeit only the booking deposit. Cancellations less than ten days prior to departure are non-refundable.
 
12. What if we decide to return from our trip early?
 
Unfortunately policy dictates there are no credits for early returns.
 
13. What if I am arriving from another country or overseas?
 
We have special arrangements for out of town clients and can make travel arrangements and preparations to make your stay more enjoyable. You must have a standard national driver's license in order to operate the RV.
 
14. What type of gas mileage can I expect from the motorhome?
 
While gas mileage varies depending on travel conditions, terrain and driver experience, you can expect approximately 6-10 miles per gallon for a Class A motorhome running on diesel.
 
15. Are motorhomes difficult to drive, slow to accelerate, or slow to brake?
 
Of course if you have never driven a motorhome before, there is a learning curve, which we will gladly assist you through. Our policy is to never let you leave without being a confident, capable, and defensive motorhome driver. Our success and your safety depend on this. As with the first time you drove a car, it was awkward but you were cautious and learned. Motor homes are much the same. Obviously they do drive differently and are larger so extra caution must be applied to your driving skills including but not limited to greater following distances, looking up to avoid roof damage, thorough understanding and proper use of our mirrors, etc.
 
16. What if a motorhome has a mechanical malfunction while I'm renting it?
 
It is our goal for you to enjoy your trip worry-free and we will do what is necessary to accomplish this. As with any adventure travel, we cannot predict exposure to various circumstances, but are confident and will tirelessly work to find a reasonable solution to any given situation with your help. We ask that you contact us even with minor concerns as we always hope to avoid major trip delays or additional expense, etc., by catching things early. Our goal is to perform much like a remote concierge to see the successful conclusion and safe return from your adventure.
 
17. What is the difference between a Class A and Class C motorhome or a travel trailer?
 
Class C motorhomes are smaller than a Class A and have an additional bed over the cab or driver area. Class C's have tighter spaces and a step down into the drivers cockpit. The driving area is more confined much like that of a van or small box truck. Travel trailers must be towed by a truck and the facilities cannot be accessed while on the road. Class A's on the other hand are more like a bus and have large panoramic views for the driver and passengers. They are all one level and more spacious to move around in and generally fully accessible while traveling.
 
18. Are motorhomes complicated to hook up to campsite facilities?
 
Hooking up a motorhome is not difficult. There are a few steps and we will instruct you on these at the time of pick-up. If you need assistance while on your trip, campsites are friendly places full of knowledgeable folks willing to assist anyone in need. Never be afraid to ask a fellow camper or attendant even the simplest question. The industry is full of knowledgeable and friendly people. What's more you may make new friends and be able to pay it forward.
 
19. What sort of power sources do motorhomes use?
 
Motorhomes are powered by V8, V10, or diesel engines. The water heater, furnace, range top, refrigerator, and oven are powered by propane gas also known as LPG. Refrigerators, water heaters and furnaces can be dual powered with electricity when the generator or shore power is activated. These units usually have switches and are 'smart' and choose the best alternative available to them automatically. The dash air conditioner and heater is powered by the engine while driving; and the overhead air conditioners, microwave, and other items are powered either by the outside 110-volt shore hookup, an inverter, or by the generator. Coaches with inverters can generally run all 110-volt electronics off the batteries for a time even with the engine off. There is no sense adding to your fuel expense using a generator if the inverter will do. Generally motor homes with inverters will only need the generator while driving for overhead roof air conditioners. All other 110-volt items should be usable.
 
20. Is the RV self-contained?
 
Yes. All of our RV's have onboard generators to power the unit, complete kitchens, restrooms, and living area including a TV, which can function while in transit.
 
21. Can I tow a vehicle or boat behind the RV?
 
Yes, in most cases. Please request this at the time of booking to discuss with your SunShare rental associate. A specific release and form must be completed and you must have an authorized trailer company check the hookups. SSRV is not responsible for damages to any trailered or towed vehicles or items. Certain weight restrictions do apply and damage to the motor home by overloading are your direct responsibility. In most cases it is easier and advisable to rent a vehicle at your destination over towing. Some rental companies do deliver! Fuel costs alone for the additional weight and hassles including but not limited to an inability to back up make it more affordable to simply rent at your destination. Dragging something around our great country can amount to little more than a ball and chain.
 
22. Where do I find RV hookups while I am traveling?
 
There are thousands of campgrounds throughout the US that provide parking, hookups, and many provide washing machines and dryers, swimming pools, recreation rooms, playgrounds, and on-site convenience stores.  There are many campgrounds and networks that provide RV hookups, dumping, water refill and other specialized RV amenities and services. Surprisingly with a little ingenuity, you can power your motor home in more places than you may think. You can easily pick up a 10 gage (it must be 10 gage), 50 foot regular household type extension cord at many hardware stores that can give you access to adequate power while at your home loading or even plugged into any found outlet.
 
23. Are there many places to stay overnight while RVing?
 
There are over 16,000 campgrounds in the US. About half are privately held and half are national and state parks and forests. Sites are located in and around major cities, in rural areas, near popular attractions, and just about on any public roadway in the US. Furthermore overnight quick stays are welcome in Wal-Mart parking lots and many roadside hotels and motels have 30 amp electrical hookups available on site for a small fee.
 
24. How much do campsites cost?
 
Rates will vary depending on time of year, facilities, location, and availability. Prices can range for full hookups from $10 to $50 a night and services will vary. Many offer shuttle services, etc., to assist in your camping needs.
 
25. Do campsites require reservations?
 
In many cases you can just pull in. However if you know where you are going in advance, it is advisable to call ahead. Also, depending on season, availability will vary. SCRV is committed to assisting you in this endeavor.
 
26. If I stay where there are no connections, how will this affect my experience?
 
You can use the generator for electricity and you will have to periodically fill your fresh water tank and dump your black and gray wastewater tanks in approved facilities. The units are self-contained and depending on usage and duration your time between these needs will vary.
 
27. Are there size restrictions on coaches at campgrounds?
 
In some cases yes. It is advisable to discuss this when making a reservation.
